FFF #17 Crazy Hair and Bed Head

Last week's FFF theme was friends so my anniversary post fit right in I think :) Thank you to everyone for your comments and well wishes! We had a date night and it was perfect! Thank you also for your sweet words about Max. We miss him terribly, but each day gets a little easier.

I haven't posted much this week- have you missed me? I've been working on a project off my summer "To Do" list. It's not done yet- but will be soon! I can't wait to share it with you! I feel like that guy in "Meet the Robinsons": Prepare to be amazed! :)

This week's theme is Crazy Hair and bed heads! How fun! We have LOTS of hair in this house! Yet- I had a hard time finding pictures! (I know- big shock there!) Maybe its because I've been so busy, maybe its because the girls didn't have hair for their first 2 years! All I wanted was to braid my girls' hair- had to wait FOREVER to do that! I must admit that I really enjoy doing the girls' hair. It doesn't happen every morning and it isn't always fun, but I do enjoy it. They are getting to the age now where they want to do MY hair. However- they are also at the age where, for example, this morning Ashley was laying in bed with me and was playing with my hair, she took a look and said, "uh-oh mommy, we have a problem.." half asleep I start to think she has to go to the bathroom, but she follows it with, "you have a gray hair back here!" Thanks hon!

So here are the best crazy hair and bed head pictures I could find, I'm sure I have better- but my brain is fried and I'm off to fry it some more with some TV. :) Funny how they are mostly of Emily and i have none of Maddie... Emily's hair is always wild- even when its fixed! LOL

Emily- the mad Mr. Potato Head scientist

Gotta love what a jumper does to your hair! When the girls get a shock they say a mouse bit them LOL

Ashley!

To see more FFF pictures make sure you check out Sarah's blog! have a great weekend!

BIG THANKS to Aunt Chelle who found this bed head picture of Maddie! LOL

Rockin' and Rollin'

So I bet you are all aware that we had an earthquake here in SoCal today- in fact it was the girls' first one that they were awake for (we had a tiny one when they were babies and in the middle of the night). They did great through it and listened really well to me. We had just come in from Target and were settling in to eat lunch when it sounded like all 3 were running full force through the house. If you've never HEARD an earthquake, you won't know what I'm talking about, but try to imagine the sound a heard of elephants might make running through your house and that is what it sounded like.

Of course there were LOTS of questions (remember we are in the lovely "WHY?" phase) and lots of concerns about more earthquakes. Once it was over the phone started to ring and the "yes, we are ok" conversations started. It proved to be a topic the rest of the day and I tried to answer all the questions. Ashley told me tonight that her favorite part of today was "having an earthquake!" but that she was scared of them. If we can get her on rollercoasters, she'll have a blast, but will tell us all afterwards how she didn't like it. :) Gotta love that girl!

10 Years Later! Happy Anniversary to My Best Friend!

Rick (22) and Chris (20) First year dating (circa 1993)
Below: July 25, 1998
10 years ago today Rick and I were married! It's been 15 years since our first date. It's so hard for me to believe that 10 years have passed, and yet there are days when it seems like 20! We have been through so much in these 10 short years (more than just triplets! and certainly a lot this week~ see post below). My love for Rick is greater than it was 10 years ago. When Rick proposed to me 11 years ago he told me he wanted to grow old with me. I look forward to growing old with him. He's my best friend and so much more!early dating pictures- yep, rick had long hair that he wore in a ponytail
Our first Thanksgiving married and below our first Christmas- with our first baby, Max.Our first Anniversary- cutting the cake topper from our wedding cake- yes we tried it and it wasn't that bad!

At Sara and Rich's wedding. Below is one of my favorite family pictures to this day.

I have the song "The Way I Am" set up to play first because I love the lyrics (other songs following include our First Dance Song- In Your Eyes and others that have meaning to us) :)
For kicks- here are the lyrics to

The Way I Am:
If you were falling, then I would catch you.
You need a light, I'd find a match.

Cuz I love the way you say good morning.
And you take me the way I am.

If you are chilly, here take my sweater.
Your head is aching, I'll make it better.

Cuz I love the way you call me baby.
And you take me the way I am.

I'd buy you Rogaine when you start losing all your hair.
Sew on patches to all you tear.

Cuz I love you more than I could ever promise.
And you take me the way I am.

You take me the way I am.
You take me the way I am.

Thank you honey for taking me the way that I am! :) I love you!

Good-Bye Old Friend~

Rick and I had to make one of the hardest decisions this week. No one wants to make a decision like this, but in our hearts we know it was for the best. We had to say good-bye to our dear sweet dog, Max. Max joined our family when he was just 6 weeks old. He is an Independence Day dog- born on the 4th of July in 1996. He just celebrated his 12th birthday this month. The girls sang to him and tossed "Scoob-i-dy Snacks" to him. Max was our first baby. He was a wonderful dog. He protected us, cuddled with us, comforted us and was a constant in our crazy life. He liked to sit on your feet and would follow me around. The minute I stood still he'd sit and so there I would stay. He loved sleeping on his back (and snored like you wouldn't believe when he did). He detested weed whackers and electric nail guns. It is going to take a lot of adjusting to living life without Max. The girls are not quite getting "it" so we find ourselves talking about it a lot more than we probably would have if they did get it. In a way I think this is good. I've promised the girls they can look at Max's "Puppy Book" in the morning. Here are some pictures I scanned from it.Just a little pup!Doing a "Flat Stanley" project with me...Max loved sticks!
Ah- the $25 couch that Max ATE- yep- just a few days after this picture was taken Max ripped this couch to shreds in protest- down to the springs- there was fabric and foam EVERYWHERE- sadly- I did not get a picture of that!

Handsome boy!

Our first "all O'Connor" Christmas - the year Rick and I were married- 1998

Rick and Max scanning the old Lomita neighborhood, watching all the kids.

In front of our peach tree- 2 years ago- he sat the best for the picture of all the "kids"

Our sweet Max, you will be missed!

Oceanside visit with Cousins!

Our cousins Betty and Charles from Sacramento were visiting the San Diego area last week with their kids and grandkids and invited us down to their condo for a BBQ. Not wanting to miss an opportunity to see family we happily drove down to see everyone! We intended to walk down to the beach, but as we hit the parking lot, a shuttle bus pulled up and asked if we needed a lift to the beach? So after confirming he wasn't kidding we all hopped on (5 adults and triplets) and rode down to the water. The girls loved being in the "bus" and we enjoyed the ride.
Betty and Charles with Emily

The girls loved being by the water- our gagoon doesn't have waves, so they were a tad nervous (well- who am I kidding- Maddie was ready to jump in- and she pretty much did).

Ashley and Grandpa digging (of course LOL)

There were a TON of rocks- including some really big ones- I think one might have come home in grammie's purse. LOL
Emily pondering the scene...

We got ready to head back and Emily states, "Ok- let's go find that shuttle!" poor dear was not happy she had to walk back.

We have to walk HOW FAR?

We walked through a cute little shopping center that reminded me of Shoreline Village in Long Beach. We hit the condo and changed into our swimsuits and headed out to the pool.

The girls loved the little pool- they were able to crawl around and pretend to swim. We got all three to stick their mouths in and blow bubbles (though Maddie took awhile to get the concept) and grandpa was happy to take turns with them in the big pool. Ashley, again, was nervous and preferred the smaller.

After some convincing we got out of the pool and headed upstairs for a great BBQ and some more time to visit and catch up. Betty gave the girls "Skippyjon Jones" books and they were happy to have anyone read to them. (I highly recommend them- they are HILARIOUS!)Too soon it was time to head home. The girls were great travelers once again! Thank you Betty and Charles!

More Gagoon Pictures

We had a quieter week last week, sticking close to home (Aunt Chelle successfully had her gallbladder out and is recovering nicely!). So here are some pictures from our most recent trip to the gagoon with Grammie and Aunt Chelle (before surgery of course! LOL)Mommy and Madeline

Ashley doing what she loves the most- digging, in grammies WHITE hat- AHHHHH!Emily's sand castle

Ashley goes for a swim! Grammie brought kick boards for everyone and Aunt Chelle helped them get used to the concept. Then Aunt Chelle became the kickboard LOL- below Emily is deciding if she should try itLook at that smile!Ashley was perfectly happy to be sun bathing on the beach (that's my girl!)Maddie and mommy- happily lining up sand castles (we wonder where she gets her OCD from?) Ashley started to put wet sand on my legs, Maddie didn't like it...
So she washed it off... BRRRRRRR! She had to get every bit of sand off me, little dear!So it was another great trip! It will be awhile before Aunt Chelle can join us again, we can't wait for that day. In the meantime, I've finally found the inner tubes I bought in March (yep- put them away for too safe keeping!) so we'll have some new entertainment next trip!

Hope you're having a great week!
